Miami Vice was a hugely popular show on FX, with an enormous following of viewers. The show followed the life of a young woman, played by Rachael Leigh Cook, who became a wanted woman in Miami after being accused of murder. She tried to run away from the police, but was shot and arrested. A bit of the storyline of the show was that she was somehow linked to the cocaine trade and had been featured in a number of episodes of the TV show. The wayfarer concept is one that many Miami Vice episodes featured, with the most famous episode featuring Detective Lowe (played by veteran actor Michael Chiklis) and his partner, Miami Vice Detective Sam Parker (Jon Gries). The two detectives find themselves unwittingly helping a lady burglar escape from a warehouse where she intends to use a massive amount of illegal drugs. Because of the way the two detectives follow the lady, they are almost immediately after her when the she flees the warehouse with millions of dollars worth of drugs.

So not only has it helped to make Miami into a more interesting place to live, but it has also helped the detectives who were trying to catch the bad guys to look like good detectives too. The success of what could have been an average crime show has spawned what is probably the hottest trend of our time.
